This, soooo much this! Sat next to my girlfriend in the theater with tears streaming down our faces. We resonated so deeply with Barbie It’s absolutely wrong that Greta and Margot were not recognized.

I haven't seen Barbie, and I don't intend to any time soon. However, I've been reading a lot of comments and even listened to a Jungian podcast talking about it. I loved their views, by the way. In all cases I always come out thinking the same: the world would be better without otherising each other, without an Us vs. Them. It's really all very Gothic.

I've given birth to two boys and, as a mother, I'm rasing them (and my husband too) with values to respect, not only women, but also other boys, different opinions, animals, the environment, and everything else. They also feel bombarded by hate speech towards them that they don't deserve because others before them fucked it up for them. So yes, let's put a pair of tits and balls or both on the table or whatever anybody has and let's talk about respecting each other.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! 😉

There are ten movies nominated for Best Picture. Only five are nominated for Best Director. This means five directors will not make the cut. Please look at the other nominated directors and decide which of them is less deserving than Greta Gerwig. One that DID make the cut, was the brilliant Anatomy of a Fall, written and directed by a woman. It is a feminist movie--its feminist message is not directed to the audience in the manner of Barbie. It is embedded in the picture. Meanwhile, Gerwig is nominated in the screenplay category and her film is nominated for best picture. You can't have everything in this world. As for the song "I'm Just Ken," you may need to separate the message of the movie from the song itself. I am not a fan of the song, but those who nominate songs in the Academy are songwriters and composers, and they understand how a song is written. They found this song worthy, using their knowledge and expertise. The message of the song within the movie may have been beside the point. Those who nominate are sent the songs themselves to listen to (as opposed to being asked to watch the movie). They listen and then nominate. That is how I understand it. I understand the frustration and anger over these nominations, but awards are given by peers in the industry. I think the directors who nominated films know quite well what a box office hit Barbie was. But that being said, they usually (but not always) lean toward less commercial fare. It's not sexist; it's just the way it goes. I'm not here to argue, just giving you another viewpoint. I'm amazed at the amount of anger this has brought out. Gerwig is being celebrated--her movie has 8 nominations! Including Picture of the Year. That's an amazing feat and I'm guessing all of this snub talk is taking some of the gleam off of her own good feelings.

Damn this is hit me hard tonight. Coming out of abusive relationship, reading your encouraging words at the end was everything. F*ck the patriarchy!

The academy nailed the message of the Barbie movie with one nomination! Good job.
