There's a lot of wisdom in this. As someone who grew up in a very sectarian religion, being "right" was of supreme importance - more than being gracious, empathetic, or neighborly. Learning to listen and empathize (even when you don't agree) lays a foundation for a more sustainable future.
Mmm, having been in and around evangelical culture for about 18 years, this tracks. Well said, Greg. Thank you for sharing and I hope you have a great weekend! What are you reading?
This week I've been reading short stories by Joe Hill, Attila Veres, and Livia Llewellyn in preparation to interview one of my all-time favorite authors, Kelly Link!!
I'm also reading a lot of Laird Barron as I lead the LB Read-Along, which has gone splendidly well. So happy with the participation of Laird's readers and fans!
Next up: I got an ARC of Stephen Graham Jones' I WAS A TEENAGE SLASHER!
Thank you for sharing this! Emotional Intelligence is something I always strive for, but I know I get some of these wrong sometimes. I especially struggle with wanting external validation; that's a journey I'm constantly on: to find ultimate self-acceptance and love.
I've also struggled with meditation over the years. It's very hard for me to quiet my mind. But I do enjoy guided meditations, and this post was a perfect reminder that I need to make more time for that.
Having done 25 guided meditations, I learned a few tricks to help my mind stop spiraling but also Ross makes a point to reassure us that there’s no wrong way to meditate—eyes open or closed, sitting or reclining, if your mind trails off, if you want to stretch while you meditate—I love that! I always thought it was about emptying my mind and being present and mantras but those are just varying styles :)
That's amazing, Millie. I'm 48 and just finding this practice now so the temptation is to feel bad about missing out, but instead, I'm going to be grateful that I have access to it now :)

I love my meditation practice. I've been doing it for almost 5 years now and it's really helped me.

That is an awesome attitude! I felt the exact same way when I started. Lol. Like you, I'm just glad I found something that stuck. 🤎🤎
You're awesome.
Thanks, Tom :)
